About Futurail
Futurail is a Munich/Strasbourg DeepTech startup building an autonomy software stack (FUTURAIL Driver) for self-driving trains that can be integrated into new rolling stock or retrofitted onto existing fleets, targeting depot automation first and later mainline services. Founded in 2023 by Alex Haag (CEO; formerly led Tesla Autopilot work), Dr Patrick Dendorfer (CTO) and Maximilian Schöffer (CCO)—alumni of Tesla, Argo AI and Edge Case—the company addresses train-driver shortages and aims to unlock secondary lines and more frequent, lower-cost rail as Europe pushes road-to-rail modal shift. Early partners include Lohr Group in Europe and Parallel Systems in the US. In September 2025 Futurail closed a €7.5 million package comprising €5.5 million Seed equity co-led by Asterion Ventures and Leap435 with EIT Urban Mobility, Zero Infinity Partners and Heroic Ventures, plus €1 million public grants and €1 million pre-seed conversion—keep equity Seed distinct from grants.
