Emerald Horizon's flagship project is the Accelerator-Driven Energy Source (ADES), a type of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) that uses a particle accelerator and thorium in molten salt to generate energy. This technology differs from conventional nuclear reactors by not relying on a critical chain reaction, which enhances safety and produces no classic transuranic waste. The container-sized ADES modules are designed for mass production and can be deployed almost anywhere, with each unit capable of producing 25 MW of thermal power for over 20 years. The company plans to market its molten salt storage system, CALstore, as a standalone product by 2027, with the full ADES systems reaching the market by 2030. The Dutch high-tech firm VDL Groep has been secured as the manufacturing partner for ADES.
The company operates on an "Energy-as-a-Service" business model, retaining ownership of the SMR modules and charging clients only for the electricity consumed, at a projected price of 8 to 10 cents per kilowatt-hour. This model targets corporate customers, including industrial sites and AI data centers, which have a massive demand for new energy sources. In addition to its energy solutions, Emerald Horizon is also active in the healthcare sector, applying its particle accelerator technology to Accelerator-Driven Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (AD-BNCT) for precise cancer treatment. The company also offers PV-contracting, installing photovoltaic systems for clients with no upfront investment costs.
