Deepal

The brand's history is linked to Changan's new energy initiatives, which began as early as 2008. Changan established a new energy technology company in 2017, which evolved into the independent Deepal brand. Deepal operates with significant backing from Changan, which has over four decades of automotive experience and maintains a global R&D network across six countries, including Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and Germany. The company operates under CEO Deng Chenghao. In December 2025, Deepal secured approximately $874 million in Series C funding to aid its development amid intense market competition.

Deepal's business model focuses on the design, development, and sale of electric and extended-range hybrid vehicles. It leverages partnerships with other major technology companies; its vehicles feature technologies co-developed with Huawei and batteries from CATL. The vehicle lineup is built on Changan's EPA NEV platform and includes a variety of models such as the SL03 sedan, and the S07, G318, S05, and S09 SUVs. The vehicles are offered with different powertrain options, including fully electric (BEV), extended-range electric (EREV), and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) systems. For instance, the G318 is an off-road-focused SUV that uses a 1.5-liter gasoline engine as a range-extender to generate power for its electric motors rather than directly driving the wheels. The company is also advancing in autonomous driving, with its SL03 model receiving a conditional L3 self-driving permit in China. Deepal targets mainstream consumer markets and has expanded its sales from China to Thailand, Australia, and other regions.
