Cybertino Lab
Ethereum Layer 2 solution for social applications
About Cybertino Lab
Cybertino Lab, which now operates as Cyber, is a blockchain technology company that has developed a modular Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solution specifically designed for social applications. Founded in 2021 by Wilson Wei, Ryan Li, Shiyu Zhang, Zhimao Liu, and Duke McKenzie, the company initially launched as an NFT marketplace for online influencers and their fans. Wilson Wei, the CEO, previously served as the chairman of DLive, a decentralized live streaming platform acquired by BitTorrent.
The firm has since rebranded from Cybertino Lab and CyberConnect to Cyber, consolidating its focus on providing infrastructure for Web3 social dApps. The core product, Cyber, is built on the Optimism (OP) Stack, which allows it to inherit Ethereum's security while offering faster transactions and lower fees. This L2 network aims to solve challenges faced by social dApps, such as high transaction volumes, the need for low-latency interactions, and affordable operations. It enables developers to build social applications with features like native identity systems, content ownership models, and seamless user experiences through Account Abstraction and WebAuthn/Passkey support.
In September 2021, Cybertino Lab secured $10 million in funding from investors including Sky9 Capital, Animoca Brands, Draper Dragon, and Hashed, to develop its platform and a new web 3.0 social product. The company is actively fostering its developer ecosystem through a $2 million grants program to encourage the creation of new applications and tools on its network. The business model revolves around the CYBER token, an omnichain utility and governance token. Token holders can stake their CYBER to help secure the network, participate in governance through the CyberDAO, and earn rewards, while the company pledges to contribute a portion of its sequencer revenue back to the Optimism Collective.
