About Beequick

Beequick, founded in 2014 by Tony Zhang, operated as an online-to-offline (O2O) on-demand delivery platform based in Beijing, China. The company positioned itself in the burgeoning quick commerce market, which was experiencing significant growth in major Chinese cities. Beequick's core business model revolved around providing a one-hour delivery service for fresh produce, groceries, and other convenience store items. It served consumers through a mobile application that connected them with a network of local community convenience stores. The company's revenue was generated from these transactions.

The platform aimed to solve the logistical challenges for busy urban professionals by offering a rapid and convenient local shopping experience. To ensure efficiency, Beequick trained the owners of the partnered community stores in effective delivery practices and implemented a rating system to maintain service quality. At its peak, the company claimed to have over 10,000 convenience stores on its platform and had served more than 250,000 customers in Beijing.

Beequick demonstrated considerable initial traction, successfully raising a total of $110 million over five funding rounds. The funding journey began with a seed round in June 2014, followed by a Series A of $20 million in October 2014, a Series B in March 2015, and a substantial $70 million Series C round in September 2015. Its final round was a Series D in November 2016. The startup attracted a strong cohort of institutional investors, including Sequoia Capital, Hillhouse Capital Group, Tiantu Capital, Crystal Stream Capital, and Meituan. Despite this significant backing and early growth, Beequick encountered severe operational and financial difficulties. The high costs associated with maintaining a one-hour delivery network, coupled with intense market competition from better-funded rivals in the O2O space, strained its financial resources. These challenges ultimately led to its acquisition by Huimin, a B2B e-commerce platform, on February 9, 2017, and the subsequent shutdown of its operations.
