About Amatera

Amatera (Amatera Biosciences) is a Paris biotechnology startup founded in 2022 that combines advanced plant cell biology, robotics and artificial intelligence to evaluate plants at the cellular level and accelerate breeding of climate-resilient, non-GMO crop varieties. Co-founded by CEO Omar Dekkiche and CTO Lucie Kriegshauser, Amatera’s platform targets the slow, labour-heavy bottleneck of generating and screening new varieties—claiming up to about 2x faster and 10x more cost-effective screening versus conventional approaches—and began with proprietary work on wine grapes and coffee before partnering with seed and agrifood players to expand into annual and staple crops. The company focuses on climate-resilient coffee adapted to higher temperatures and pathogen pressure and disease-resistant wine grapes that can cut chemical inputs, while keeping varieties non-GMO by identifying natural cellular variation early. In March 2026 Amatera closed a €6 million equity Seed co-led by Demea Sustainable Investment (ex-Demeter; VitiRev Innovation) and Oyster Bay Venture Capital, with existing shareholders PINC, Mudcake and Exceptional Ventures, to expand engineering and science teams and industrialise the robotics and AI platform beyond coffee and grapes.
