Epoch AI: the US has received 72% of the world's AI compute since 2022, the EU 5%

Samuel Albanie shared a chart from Epoch AI's new AI Chip Imports explorer, which estimates from customs records that of 27.4 million H100-equivalents of AI compute that arrived from 2022 through June 2026, 19.8 million (72%) went to the US, 2.6 million (10%) to China including domestic chips, 1.4 million (5%) to the EU and 0.7 million (2%) to Malaysia. The US share of new arrivals rose from about 60-63% a year in 2022-2024 to 72% in 2025 and 78% in the first half of 2026. Epoch stresses these are modelled estimates, not an inventory of installed chips.
