Tesla expands its Houston robotaxi zone about tenfold, to roughly 250 square miles, in a rocket-shaped geofence
Tesla's Robotaxi account announced a much larger Houston service area on 26 October ("Houston, we have liftoff"), stretching from the original ~25 sq mi zone around Jersey Village in northwest Houston through the 610 Loop to downtown, Montrose, Midtown and Bellaire. Robotaxi Tracker puts the new area at roughly 250 sq mi, about 10 times the launch zone and about five times Waymo's ~49 sq mi Houston area, but counts only 34 unsupervised Model Ys there, per Electrek. Tesla launched driverless Houston rides on 18 April; it now runs unsupervised rides in six US metros.
