- Conception X, the UK-based non-profit behind Europe’s largest deep tech venture programme for PhDs, has launched a new £600,000 angel syndicate to invest in early-stage science founders.
- The syndicate, quickly oversubscribed, brings together leading scientists and deeptech veterans from Google and DeepMind to support and mentor emerging startups.
- This year, it will make 15 investments of £40,000 each, focusing on teams at the pre-incorporation and pre-seed stage.
- Conception X aims to turn PhD students into startup founders, bridging the gap between academia and industry.
- Since 2018, it has helped create over 150 deeptech companies across 70+ universities, with a portfolio valued at £500 million.
- The syndicate offers early, trust-based capital and works closely with universities to ensure fair terms for founders.
- Backers include experienced angels and exited founders, committed to fast, hands-on support.
- The first investments are expected by June 18, with applications open to science founders across Europe.
