OpenCRISPR-1, the world’s first ever open-source AI-generated human gene editor.

Nathan Benaiche (Air Street Capital) on LinkedIn wrote: Crispr therapeutics are potentially transformative, but the number of addressable diseases remains small, while the process is very expensive.

Profluent has created a gene editor that can generate diverse CRISPR-associated proteins never before seen in nature, including some that are over 400 mutations away from any known natural protein. It exhibited 95% editing efficiency across cell types.

They’re making this work freely available - no upfront charge, milestone payments, or royalties. Ever. Proud to have been their partner from Day One.

New York Times article:

  • Profluent's new A.I. creates gene editors called OpenCRISPR-1, editing DNA for better disease control.
  • Based on AI techniques like those in ChatGPT, analyzed biological data.
  • Paper published by Berkeley startup; presentation at American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy soon.
  • OpenCRISPR-1, inspired by Nobel-winning CRISPR, open-sourced for widespread experimentation.
  • Technology could enable more precise genetic editing, potentially speeding up personalized medical treatments.
  • Profluent's A.I. hasn't been clinically tested yet; effectiveness still under evaluation.
  • Generative A.I. may rapidly improve, suggesting long-term potential for precise, tailored treatments.
