Medicinal Technologies closes first outside round to build over-the-counter biopharma pipeline

What's the deal? Florida-based Medicinal TechnologiesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has closed its first private investment financing, the St. Petersburg company announced on September 12. It said the capital will fund its clinical pipeline and scale commercialisation as it works to create over-the-counter (OTC) biopharmaceuticals.

What's the endgame? The company is building the regulatory and commercial infrastructure to sell biopharmaceuticals in a consumer-accessible, over-the-counter format. Its flagship asset is MEnera, part of a broader pipeline of biotherapeutic products.

Why now? Medicinal Technologies pointed to a run of 2026 milestones: a filed US patent application covering MEnera's nanocarrier formulation, active engagement with the FDA's Office of Combination Products and Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, and acceptance of its formulation science in a peer-reviewed pharmaceutical journal.

The company said its approach draws on regulatory frameworks such as 21 CFR Part 3 and precision formulation design.

What could go wrong? Bringing biopharmaceuticals to an OTC format has no established template, and much of the science remains early-stage. "Bringing biopharmaceuticals into an over-the-counter format requires building the structural and regulatory frameworks from the ground up," said founder and chief executive officer Dr. Sheryene Tejeda.

The signal: The raise is a bet on a nascent category within a global biopharmaceuticals market that Fortune Business InsightsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → projects will reach $720.72 billion in 2026. Whether OTC biopharma becomes a viable segment will depend less on capital than on regulators clearing a path that does not yet exist.
