RS Sailing lands backing from Swedish investor and 25-year hull supplier

What's the deal? RS SailingDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has secured long-term investment from Swedish marine investor Fredriksborgs Förvaltnings AB and the owners of Rototek Ltd, the firm that has manufactured RS hulls for more than 25 years. Terms were not disclosed. The UK-based company designs racing, training and adventure dinghies, with more than 40,000 boats on the water and 15 active racing classes worldwide.

Who's backing it? Fredriksborgs is an investment company with a portfolio of established marine businesses, while Nottinghamshire-based Rototek brings two-and-a-half decades of production experience. "Rototek have built our boats for a quarter of a century and Fredriksborgs brings deep marine experience," said Alex Newton-Southon, managing director of RS Sailing.

What's the endgame? RS says the investment funds the next stage of its strategic growth, with the same team, boats and UK production retained. Dealer partnerships, warranties, parts support and investment in new boat development continue as normal.

Why now? The backing follows RS's move to formalize the RS Marine Group in January 2026, bringing together RS Sailing, RS Electric BoatsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Cheetah MarineDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Ocean PlayDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → under shared business functions. That makes the investment support for a multi-brand growth strategy rather than a single product line.

What could go wrong? Newton-Southon acknowledged recent strain, calling it "a challenging period" and thanking suppliers "for their support and understanding." Without disclosed terms, the round's scale is hard to gauge.

The signal: Recent marine funding has leaned toward technology-led ventures — electric-boat maker Arc raised $50 million in March 2026 to scale commercial and defense work, and other startups have drawn capital for autonomous vessels and digital services. The RS deal points to continued investor appetite for established recreational-boating brands, backed here by partners already embedded in the industry.
