Student-built SharePay tackles group payments, hits 200 users in Preston

What's the deal? SharePayDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Preston-based fintech founded by University of Lancashire students, has launched publicly to solve the headache of splitting group payments. The startup has signed up around 200 users and offers merchant checkout through Stripe, Adyen, and Worldpay.

Why now? The launch follows a run of early validation, including university pitch prizes, recognition at the BIBAs, and SWEF grants. That backing gave the founders the footing to move from idea to a public soft launch.

What's the endgame? SharePay grew out of a founder's frustration with organising group trips and bills. Its aim is to make shared payments — from group travel to everyday splits — simpler to coordinate and collect.

The signal: A student project turning into a fast-growing fintech underlines Lancashire's emerging startup scene, where university support and regional grants are helping young founders build consumer products with real traction.
