AstraYAN wins propulsion integration contract for Indian Navy's Next Generation Corvettes
What's the deal? AstraYANDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an IIT Madras-incubated maritime deep-tech company, has won the globally competed tender for Propulsion System Integration (PSI) on the Indian Navy's new Next Generation Corvettes (NGCs), becoming the first Indian company to qualify for and win it. The win follows the Indian Ministry of Defence signing contracts worth US$7.32B on 2 November 2026 with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) and Goa Shipyard for eight NGCs, with the first corvette to be built by 2030.
Why it matters: AstraYAN beat global bidders for ship propulsion integration work on a major Indian warship class, a milestone for the country's indigenous naval technology ecosystem. The NGC programme is central to the Indian Navy's modernisation, with the ships to be armed with anti-ship missiles and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
