OpenAI to buy Pierre, the code-storage startup already inside Codex, in a shot at GitHub
What's the deal? OpenAI said on 4 November 2026 that it will acquire Pierre Computer CompanyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the San Francisco developer-tools startup behind Code Storage and the open-source Trees and Diffs libraries. Terms were not disclosed, and the deal still needs regulatory approval.
What Pierre does: Code Storage is a Git-based service that lets apps and AI agents store code and its history; Pierre lists Lovable, Bolt and Amp among its users. Trees and Diffs already power file browsing and code review in the Codex app. OpenAI plans to fold Code Storage into Codex and keep Pierre's open-source projects open.
Why it matters: Axios framed the deal as OpenAI taking aim at Microsoft's GitHub as coding agents write more of the world's software. It comes days after OpenAI described Pando, its in-house source control system for engineers and agents, and the same week Meta bought AI coding startup Conductor.
