Rivio doubles valuation to $1B with $14.6M Series A extension

What's the deal? Brazilian healthtech Rivio has raised US$20.5M (≈$14.6 million) in a Series A extension led by Valor Capital, with participation from monashees. The round values the company at US$255.8M.

The step-up: The valuation is double what Rivio was worth less than a year ago, when it raised US$25.6M. Both Valor Capital and monashees backed that earlier round alongside Endeavor, Positive VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and APL.

What's the endgame? Rivio uses AI to manage hospital medical billing — a complex process involving thousands of items and procedures that often go uncharged or miscounted. By some estimates, hospitals lose up to 10% of revenue in the paperwork.

Founded last year, Rivio now works with 13 hospitals, including Einstein, Sírio-Libanês, A.C.Camargo Cancer Center, and HCor, all in São Paulo. "Until today, there are large hospitals with nurses noting on paper every dose of dipyrone administered, like a hotel when a guest asks for something extra in the room," said chief executive officer Silvio Frison (translated from Portuguese).

Why now? The deal was signed three days after Brazil's runoff election, amid broader skepticism about the growth potential of AI-linked companies. Rivio has also revised its strategy, shifting from chasing high hospital volume to focusing on reference institutions to spread AI adoption in healthcare.

The signal: Medical-billing AI is drawing capital on both sides of the equator. Domestic rival RevenaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → raised US$10.2M earlier this year, while US-based Candid Health raised $120 million from Sixth Street GrowthDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in July, tripling its valuation. Candid pegs billing inefficiency and waste at $280 billion a year in the US alone.
