Saab unveils CB90CX uncrewed combat boat for Swedish Navy

What's the deal? SaabDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → unveiled the Combat Boat 90 (CB90) CX, a new 18-metre uncrewed speed assault boat for the Swedish Navy, on 1 November 2026 ahead of the Euronaval show in Paris. Designed for fully uncrewed operations from the outset, the CB90CX's larger hull delivers more than 50% greater payload capacity than the 16.3-metre CB90 Next Generation already in service with nine navies. It introduces new vessel infrastructure including an integrated ship automation and monitoring system, a fire-control system and steer-by-wire technology.

Why it matters: The CB90CX is planned in three configurations: an intelligence and surveillance variant using Saab's Giraffe 1X radar, an anti-ship warfare variant for beyond-line-of-sight strikes on surface vessels, and a short-range air-defence variant fitted with an anti-aircraft automatic cannon able to engage uncrewed aerial threats. The design marks Saab's push to make crewless strike and air-defence capability standard on high-speed craft rather than an optional upgrade.
