India's EloElo raises $80M at $500M valuation to chase microdrama boom

What's the deal? Bengaluru-based Eloelo has raised $80 million in a Series C round led by Hornbill CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. The round values the live social entertainment company at $500 million and brings its total funding to $130 million.

What's the endgame? The money backs Eloelo's microdrama app, Story TV, which offers short, vertically filmed fiction across genres such as romance and thrillers. The app has more than 33 million active users, according to analysts, and the company has used aggressive performance marketing to scale it.

Why now? More than 118 million users watch microdramas monthly in India as the serialized format takes off. Analysts expect the industry to cross $3–4 billion in annual revenue, drawing both venture capital and established media players into the race.

By the numbers: Eloelo's $80 million deal ranks among the largest Series C rounds for an India-based mobile app—above the 95th percentile of 64 comparable rounds over the past four years. Story TV helped lift the company's annualised collections more than tenfold to around $250 million over the past year.

What could go wrong? Audience figures don't equal paying demand. One estimate cited by TechCrunch says over 40 million Indians have paid for microdramas at least once, but only 15–17 million pay monthly—leaving open whether Eloelo can convert fast-growing viewership into durable revenue.

The signal: India's microdrama market is heating up fast. Kuku FM recently raised $85 million, rivals Flick TVDealroom has a profile for this one.
