Chile's Transelec raises $240M in bonds to fund grid expansion
What's the deal? TranselecDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Chile's largest electricity transmission company, raised 6 million CLF (about $240 million) through a local bond placement announced in November 2026. The 25-year bullet notes will fund the company's investment pipeline.
The details: The Series AD auction, managed by Santander and Banchile, drew demand of about 14 million CLF — more than twice the amount offered. It priced at an average rate of UF+3.5%, 35 basis points below the initially registered rate.
Why now? The company is entering a heavy investment cycle, with FitchDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → estimating committed capital expenditure of roughly CLP1.049 trillion for 2026–29 and negative free cash flow expected over the next two years. Recent upgrades to AA+ by Feller Rate and Humphreys support its market access.
By the numbers: In the 12 months to June 2026, Transelec posted revenue of CLP508 billion and EBITDA of CLP430 billion. It operates more than 10,700km of transmission lines and 80 substations across Chile.
What's the endgame? Proceeds will finance investments and general corporate purposes. Interest is paid over the life of the bond, with principal due in 2051 and an option to prepay from 2029.
"The placement is part of Transelec's financing strategy to support the development of its investments and shows the market's confidence," chief executive officer Arturo Le Blanc said (translated from Spanish).
The signal: The strong order book reflects investor appetite for Chilean grid assets as the country builds out capacity — 48 transmission projects worth $3.3 billion were under construction as of September 2026. For Transelec, the raise is routine expansion funding rather than an unusual event.
