Korea's teameasy raises seed round for used-car insurance platform, lands TIPS grant
What's the deal? teameasy, a South Korean fintech behind used-car warranty insurance platform FINCAT, has raised a seed round from the Korea Industrial Intelligence Association (KOIIA). The company also won a place in the government's TIPS 2026 third general track. The round amount was not disclosed.
What does the company do? Founded in January 2022 and based in Ulsan, teameasy digitises used-car warranty insurance work. FINCAT merges the manual, back-and-forth decisions between insurers, loss adjusters, and repair shops into one standard workflow.
What's the money for? teameasy will use its TIPS R&D project to build two AI engines. One blocks personal-data re-identification risk in claims and quote documents in real time; the other generates the legal and technical basis for key decisions in natural language.
Who led it? KOIIA, a TIPS operator and registered accelerator, both invested in and recommended teameasy for the program. It plans to back further growth through global network ties, open innovation, and follow-on investment.
Why now? teameasy was selected for the Financial Services Commission's regulatory sandbox delegated test in 2025, where FINCAT processed about 58,000 claims worth a cumulative US$16.5M. That real-world track record underpins the current round and grant.
What CEO Kook says: "Used-car warranty insurance has extremely fragmented data and processes, so it's an area that needs standard infrastructure and explainable AI," said chief executive officer Kook Sung-kwon (translated from Korean). He added that the company aims to expand into auto finance and general property insurance.
The signal: The round is best read as an early-stage milestone that pairs seed funding with validation support for R&D and commercialisation, rather than proof of market success — paid customers and revenue remain undisclosed. With the government tightening used-car warranty liability and consumer protection, demand for standardised, efficient claims processing could grow.
