Luna Glass raises undisclosed round led by Oost NL to shrink its night-vision glasses

What's the deal? Arnhem-based Luna Glass has raised new funding to further develop its night-vision glasses, with regional development investor Oost NL investing through ION+3 alongside private backers. The amount was not disclosed.

What does the company do? Luna Glass makes glasses for people with night blindness and low-light vision impairment. A built-in full-colour camera projects a brighter image over the wearer's natural field of view in real time.

What's the money for? The capital will let Luna Glass make its technology more compact and scale up production. The aim is to give people with night blindness greater independence, especially during the darker months.

Why now? Luna recently ran a pilot production and opened a waitlist for a limited run of 500 units of its next version. The company previously pitched at a Business Angels Network Nijmegen meeting and joined the Radboudumc Investment Day.

Where it started: Founder Karst Hoogsteen began the company after cycling into a ditch at Harvard Medical School that he couldn't distinguish from the shadows. He then decided to devote his career to glasses for people with vision impairment.

The signal: This is a product-development and manufacturing milestone, not a headline-sized deal next to the larger consumer smart-glasses rounds announced recently. Its relevance sits in the assistive-technology niche, where a less conspicuous design and everyday usability may matter as much as the underlying technology.
