Veridas and Fourthline merge to build €50M digital identity group

What's the deal? Spain's Veridas and Amsterdam-based Fourthline have merged to create a European digital identity and Know Your Customer (KYC) provider, backed by an investment from Seaya AndromedaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a €300 million fund. The combined group pairs Fourthline's compliance and onboarding platform with Veridas's biometrics and anti-fraud technology. Deal terms were not disclosed.

Who's involved? Seaya Andromeda joins existing investor Finch CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → on the shareholder base. Paul Stoddart, Fourthline's chief executive officer, will lead the combined company, while Veridas chief executive officer Eduardo Azanza becomes chairman.

What's the endgame? The group expects more than €50 million in recurring revenue in 2026 and €85 million by 2029. It employs over 400 people — more than 300 at technology centres in Pamplona and Barcelona — and serves over 350 clients across 25 countries, including major banks and neobanks. Headquartered in Amsterdam, it keeps offices in Stockholm, Pamplona, Barcelona, Mexico City, São Paulo, and Boston.

Why now? The European Union's new anti-money-laundering rules apply from July 2027, pushing financial institutions to update customer-due-diligence and remote-onboarding systems. The merger aims to offer banks and fintechs a broader compliance stack as requirements converge across the bloc.

"From today, a company onboarding customers in Amsterdam, Madrid, London, Mexico City, São Paulo or Bogotá will be able to apply a single verification standard through one provider," Stoddart said. He added that his first priority is "continuity of service for our existing customers."

What could go wrong? The group's "leading" status remains a company claim. The real test is integrating the two product lines and keeping customers in a crowded identity-verification market.

The signal: The deal reflects consolidation in European identity and compliance tech ahead of tighter EU rules. As onboarding and fraud-prevention requirements converge, vendors are combining capabilities to sell banks a single, broader stack rather than piecemeal tools.
