Terms were not disclosed. The deal, first announced in July, closed in November.
What each side brings: Founded in 1902, DBD employs about 530 people and brings more than a century of engineering expertise. RENK supplies propulsion systems for the military sector; the business now operates as RENK UK Huddersfield.
Why Huddersfield matters: Effective immediately, the site becomes a centre of excellence for submarine propulsion systems — low-noise, low-vibration technology that RENK is adding to its portfolio for the first time. DBD also complements RENK's naval propulsion systems and transmissions for wheeled and tracked vehicles.
What's the endgame? The acquisition gives RENK access to long-term naval programmes in the UK, Canada, Norway, and Australia, plus a broader presence across the Five Eyes countries. The Huddersfield business reportedly brings an order backlog and pipeline of more than £700m through 2030, including work linked to the Type 26 frigate programme.
"As a European partner, we are committed to Huddersfield and to the UK defence industry," said Alexander Sagel, chief executive of RENK Group. "They can rely on RENK to continue to deliver."
Mike Helme, chief executive of David Brown Defence, said the team "can build on that heritage with an international network and a shared commitment to quality and reliability for our customers."
The signal: The deal reflects a broader push by defence firms to buy specialist engineering capacity and lock in exposure to long-lived military programmes.
