Hong Kong's Wing Lee to raise $12.4M in share placement for energy pivot
What's the deal? Wing Lee Development ConstructionDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → signed a placing agreement on October 28 to issue up to 100 million new shares at US$0.12 each, raising net proceeds of about US$11.4M (roughly $12.4 million). The shares, placed to at least six independent investors on a best-efforts basis, equal 10% of Wing Lee's existing issued shares.
What's the endgame? The Hong Kong-listed construction firm will put 60% of net proceeds into its new-energy business — battery storage, charging and battery-swapping stations, and energy infrastructure for AI data centres. The remaining 40% funds working capital for its construction and engineering operations.
Why now? New-energy revenue jumped 122.9% to US$5.17M in the year to March 2026. But group revenue fell 13.4% and net profit dropped 66.8%, giving Wing Lee reason to fund a growth pivot while shoring up its core business.
Wing Lee said the raise will "strengthen its existing engineering business whilst capturing emerging opportunities in the renewable energy sector."
What could go wrong? The placement is on a best-efforts basis, so the full amount is not guaranteed. Proceeds also remain conditional on completion, and the plan depends on Wing Lee converting momentum into contracts and earnings.
The signal: The raise reflects wider interest in Hong Kong's data-centre and power-infrastructure buildout — Goodman raised $455 million in September for local data-centre development. For a construction firm nursing falling profits, the placement is a bet on reinventing itself around energy demand.
