UK space startup Eos opens Athens hub after pre-seed round

What's the deal? Eos Space TechnologyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a British deep tech startup building electric propulsion systems for satellites, has closed a pre-seed round and is opening an engineering hub in Athens. What's the endgame? Eos develops a channel-less, erosion-free plasma thruster for microsatellites and in-orbit servicing vehicles. By forming plasma outside the engine body, the design eliminates the ceramic walls that wear down in conventional Hall-effect and ion thrusters, aiming to enable multi-year missions without premature failure.

Why now? The satellite industry is shifting from a "launch and forget" model toward in-orbit servicing — repairing, refuelling, and repositioning craft in space. Regulators now require operators to deorbit satellites within five years of a mission's end, raising demand for durable propulsion.

What's the market expansion? The Athens hub marks Eos's choice of Greece for its technical base, with hardware and space systems engineering roles opening immediately. The company was founded by three PhD scientists — Szymon, Mohamed, and Thomas — who developed the technology at the UK's Surrey Space Centre.

Evercurious said Eos "doesn't work around the constraints with quick software fixes" but tackles the problem through physics, building a durable advantage. Eos positions itself as a B2B supplier to satellite builders.

The signal: The hub fits a broader shift of Greece from satellite-program participant toward a manufacturing and engineering base, alongside the government's €350 million Hellas-Space 2.0 program and ICEYE's planned Athens production facility. Open Cosmos has also announced €300 million in financing and plans to scale up its Greek workforce. Eos's move could matter if it brings durable engineering jobs and export-oriented capabilities, though the round's size remains undisclosed.
