Texas Community Bancshares to buy Bank of San Jacinto County for $9.5M

What's the deal? Texas Community Bancshares, the Mineola-based holding company for Broadstreet BankDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, has agreed to acquire The Banc of San Jacinto County Bancshares in an all-cash deal worth $9.5 million. The target owns The Bank of San Jacinto County, a single-office community bank in Coldspring, Texas, founded in 1963. SJCB shareholders will receive a pro rata share of the cash at closing.

What each side brings: As of June 30, 2026, SJCB Bank held $41.951 million in total assets, $12.515 million in loans, and $35.305 million in deposits. Broadstreet operates a main office and six branches across five East Texas counties, offering deposit products and residential, commercial, construction, and municipal lending.

What's the endgame? "This transaction is a natural extension of our strategy to grow thoughtfully in markets we know and understand," said Jason Sobel, president and chief executive officer of Texas Community Bancshares. He said the deal would give SJCB customers access to a broader range of products and more lending capacity.

Why now? SJCB chief executive officer Denny Clark said his board concluded that joining Texas Community Bancshares was "the right step for our shareholders, our customers and our employees." Both boards have unanimously approved the agreement.

What's next? The merger is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and a vote by SJCB shareholders. Alston & Bird is advising the acquirer; Fenimore Kay Harrison and Performance Trust Capital Partners are advising SJCB.

The signal: The deal is a small, local tuck-in rather than a major banking transaction, but it fits a broader wave of Texas community-bank consolidation. Citizens BankDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Texas National BankDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → combined in October, and Legend BankDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → completed its acquisition of Graham Savings and Loan — all against a long-term national decline in the number of community banks.
