Morocco's ABA Life lands $40M from Admaius to chase unicorn status
What's the deal? Morocco-based healthtech firm ABA Life has signed a $40 million late-stage investment agreement with pan-African private equity firm Admaius Capital PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The deal — equivalent to 400 million dirhams — is subject to customary closing conditions and clearance from Morocco's Competition Council.
What's the endgame? Founded in 2021, ABA Life is the healthcare arm of ABA Technology and combines artificial intelligence, medical technology, telemedicine and connected health infrastructure. The money will fund its "AI for Sovereign Health" programme, including the Mediot AI platform, industrial-scale deployment of its health technologies, and international expansion.
Why now? The company says it has built a profitable, integrated model in five years, delivering healthcare programmes with public institutions and foundations. Founder and chairman Mohamed Benouda wants to make ABA Life "one of Morocco's next unicorns."
Admaius, based in Kigali with offices across Africa and London, is reportedly taking a 12–14% stake through an equity injection rather than a cash-out for existing owners. "ABA Life has the qualities we look for in our investments: an ambitious entrepreneurial team, a proven business model, strong technology foundations and significant potential to scale," said managing partner Marlon Chigwende.
What could go wrong? The agreement is not yet final, pending regulatory approval. ABA Life has not disclosed its target markets or how the funds will be allocated.
The signal: The round stands out in a tough market: African healthtech startups raised just $18 million in the first half of 2026, according to TechCabal. It also fits Admaius's growth-equity strategy, whose proposed $500 million Virunga Africa Fund II targets mid-sized African businesses, with half its capital earmarked for North Africa.
