Boralex buys UK's Wind2, adding 350 MW to its renewables pipeline
What's the deal? BoralexDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired Wind2, a UK-based renewable energy developer behind roughly 350 MW of well-advanced wind projects across Scotland, England, and Wales. The deal, announced in October, also brings over Wind2's teams from its two UK offices. Terms were not disclosed.
Who's involved? Founded in 2016, Wind2 develops onshore wind projects alongside solar farms and energy parks. Boralex, a Montréal-based renewables producer, has operated in the UK for nearly 10 years and holds a 1.7 GW development pipeline.
What's the endgame? The purchase deepens Boralex's UK footprint with ready-to-build projects and local expertise. It follows the company's March acquisition of two onshore wind projects totaling about 58 MW.
"This acquisition is fully aligned with our growth strategy in the United Kingdom, a market that offers significant expansion potential for Boralex," said Jean-Christophe Dall'Ava, executive vice president and general manager, Europe.
Why now? BrookfieldDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and La Caisse completed their acquisition of Boralex in August, taking the company private and giving it long-term investors to fund growth. Boralex frames the UK as central to diversifying beyond its North American and French markets.
The signal: UK renewables M&A is drawing larger strategic buyers consolidating platforms — Drax recently agreed to buy Bluefield Solar for £548 million. Wind2 expands Boralex's team and pipeline in that race, though the undisclosed price makes the deal's valuation hard to gauge.
