Solink raises $100M to turn security cameras into business intelligence
What's the deal? Ottawa-based Solink has raised more than $100 million in a growth round led by Toronto private equity firm Vertu CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Comcast Ventures joining as new investors. The company turns footage from existing security cameras into real-time operational data for retailers, restaurants, and warehouse operators. Founded in 2009, it started out selling cloud video surveillance.
What's the endgame? Solink wants to build out what it calls AI vision intelligence — using AI to help customers cut losses and uncover revenue from cameras they already own. By its own count, about 500,000 cameras across more than 35,000 locations in 65 countries now feed into the platform. That installed base gives it room to expand without asking customers to replace existing hardware.
Why now? This year Solink added AI agents for perimeter security and loss prevention that run on edge devices, followed by vision language models in its VerifEye command center to filter out false alarms. Chief executive Mike Matta called the present a "watershed moment" for physical businesses.
By the numbers: The round is a step-up from Solink's $60 million Series C in July 2023, which Goldman Sachs also led. Eric Kafka, a partner at Vertu, called AI vision intelligence "one of the most significant opportunities in software today."
What could go wrong? Solink did not disclose a valuation or say how much of the round goes to the company versus existing shareholders, making it hard to read investor pricing. It also gave no detail on the strategic opportunities it plans to fund with part of the raise.
The signal: Investors are backing a shift from reactive video security toward operational analytics drawn from camera networks already in place. Competitors are chasing similar capabilities — Coram AI raised a $35 million Series B in June, and Verkada has drawn growth and strategic backing, including from Nvidia. Solink's scale makes it one of the larger bets on that thesis.
