Pathfinder raises $12M to help families spend school-choice funds

What's the deal? PathfinderDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised $12 million in Series A funding to expand its charge cards and eligibility tools for families using state education funds, chief executive officer Amaan Ahmad told Axios Pro. The round follows a $4 million seed earlier this year led by Gradient and Reach CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →.

What's the endgame? The startup builds financial infrastructure for parents tapping education savings accounts (ESAs), 529s, and similar programs. Its app and card help families track purchases and work out which ones qualify — a common headache when navigating approved spending and reimbursement paperwork.

Why now? School choice is spreading fast. Axios reports eight states created or broadened private-school-choice programs in 2025, and industry research counts 21 state-funded ESA programs across 18 states in 2026.

What could go wrong? Pathfinder's card tools now serve more than 7,000 Arizona accounts, and it plans to expand to six states in 2027. That push will test whether its model works across differing state rules and licensing requirements.

The signal: The round is a bet on compliance and payments plumbing around school choice, not a classroom-software product. As public money flows to families rather than institutions, investors are backing the infrastructure that decides how it gets spent.
