China's Zing Semiconductor lands $285M to expand 300mm wafer output

What's the deal? Zing Semiconductor CorporationDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Shanghai-based chip materials maker, has raised US$261.3M (roughly $285 million) from state-owned Shanghai Guosheng (Group) Co., Ltd. The investment lifts the company's registered capital from US$327.3M to about US$588.5M.

Who's involved? Founded in June 2014, Zing develops, manufactures, and sells high-quality semiconductor silicon wafers, silicon-based materials, and chip equipment. It is held by Shanghai Silicon Industry Group alongside the newly added Shanghai Guosheng.

Why now? The capital increase forms part of a previously announced US$1.57B recapitalization. Shanghai Silicon Industry Group is folding in related wafer-business assets, while Shanghai Guosheng adds US$550M, including debt conversion. The parent will keep control with an 84.5% stake.

What's the endgame? The money funds expansion of 300mm wafer capacity, a strategic priority for China's domestic chip supply. The group's Shanghai and Taiyuan 300mm output reached one million wafers a month in the first half of 2026, with 1.2 million targeted by year-end.

What could go wrong? The expansion is capital-intensive, and the company remained loss-making. Capacity growth and customer qualification still need to translate into profitable output.

The signal: As China pushes to secure its own wafer supply, state-backed capital is consolidating assets behind domestic champions. Zing's recapitalization shows how that buildout is being financed — and how far it still has to run before it pays off.
