Numeracle raises $28M to stop legitimate calls getting flagged as spam
What's the deal? NumeracleDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised $28 million in a Series B led by Edison PartnersDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to keep legitimate business calls from being blocked or mislabeled as spam, the company told Crunchbase News exclusively. The McLean, Virginia-based company verifies businesses and links their identities to the phone numbers they use to reach customers.
How it works: Most tools stop at the phone number, monitoring for spam labels and appealing to carriers. Numeracle goes further upstream, verifying that a business is a real operating entity and sharing that information with the systems carriers use to screen calls.
By the numbers: The round brings Numeracle's total funding to $34.8 million since its 2018 founding, following a $6.8 million Series A in December 2023. Edison was the sole investor. The company declined to disclose its valuation.
Why now? Carriers are tightening fraud controls that can mislabel calls from hospitals, schools, and airlines, while AI makes it easier to create fake businesses and impersonate real brands. In a Numeracle study, 69% of US consumers said they had missed, ignored, or declined a call because they couldn't trust the caller ID.
What's the endgame? Numeracle will hire, expand internationally, and extend its verification beyond voice into messaging, chat apps, marketplaces, and AI agents. It serves roughly 4,000 enterprise brands across financial services, retail, healthcare, and home services, and reported annual recurring revenue up 70% year over year.
Founder's note: Founder and chief executive officer Rebekah Johnson warned carriers about the problem while on the Federal Communications Commission's Robocall Strike Force in 2016. "We built Entity Identity Management because fraud and impersonation are not fundamentally communications problems, they are identity problems," she said.
The signal: The bet is that businesses will pay for verified identity across every channel, not just help fixing caller-ID reputations. Numeracle, which says it became profitable this year, offers investors a rare profitable target at a time when verified identity is becoming a broader trust problem than any single phone call.
