SPIE buys 76% of Austria's SAR to deepen industrial automation push
What's the deal? French multi-technical services group SPIEDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has signed an agreement to acquire a 76% stake in SAR ANLAGENBAU GmbH, an Austrian electrical engineering and automation company operating in Austria and Germany. The deal value was undisclosed.
The terms: SAR managing director and shareholder Arno Reisinger will co-invest in the business, retaining a stake of up to 24%. The move keeps existing leadership involved. Closing is expected in early 2027, subject to customary conditions.
What each side brings: SPIE describes itself as the independent European leader in multi-technical services across energy and communications. SAR posted about €100 million in 2025/26 revenue and employs 230 people, adding capabilities in infrastructure and industrial automation systems.
Why now? The purchase fits a broader SPIE push into industrial services. It agreed to buy Germany-focused SGS Industrial ServicesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, with roughly €180 million in revenue, in March 2026, and closed its acquisition of German automation group ROFA, at about €430 million in revenue, in June.
What's the endgame? SAR is smaller than those deals, but it gives SPIE another foothold in the German-speaking region and complements the wider expansion. The acquisition "significantly" expands its electrical service portfolio into infrastructure and industrial automation, the company said.
The signal: SPIE is building scale in industrial automation through a steady run of regional acquisitions, with retained management stakes used to keep operational continuity. The SAR deal extends that consolidation into Austria.
