Dongxing's $10M profit jump follows Yijiabao deal, orthopaedics push

What's the deal? Dongxing Medical (301290) has acquired a controlling stake in Wuhan Yijiabao, moving the Chinese surgical-device maker into orthopaedic implants. The deal, announced in October 2026, saw Dongxing take 90% of Yijiabao, which it began consolidating from the third quarter. Terms were not disclosed.

What does each side do? Dongxing builds minimally invasive surgical instruments, led by staplers and electric endoscopic devices. Yijiabao makes orthopaedic implants, surgical dressings, wound care, and sodium hyaluronate, holding 30 Class III and 36 Class II medical-device registrations.

By the numbers: Dongxing posted nine-month revenue of ¥330 million, up 16.23%, and net profit of ¥59.2 million (about $8.3 million), up 211.30%. The profit surge was driven largely by Yijiabao's consolidation from August and higher investment income; stripping out one-offs, profit still rose 155.7%.

Why now? Dongxing is building a second growth engine beyond staplers. Yijiabao earned ¥72.3 million in adjusted net profit in 2025, and sellers have committed to cumulative adjusted profit of at least ¥268 million across 2026 to 2028.

What's the endgame? Dongxing sees regional complementarity: Yijiabao's reach in central China's grassroots hospitals meets Dongxing's network of top-tier hospitals in the east. Precision machining for implants can share production lines with its Zihang Precision unit, and a recombinant collagen raw material — co-developed with a Shanghai Jiao Tong University team — is slated for production in January 2027 to supply repair and healing products.

What could go wrong? The profit jump leans heavily on consolidation and investment gains rather than organic growth. Delivering on the three-year profit pledge, and integrating the two businesses, remains unproven.

The signal: The deal shows a surgical-instrument maker using M&A to diversify into higher-value implants, betting that channel overlap and shared precision manufacturing turn an earnings boost into durable growth.
