Platinum Equity to acquire propane distributor EDP from PPC

What's the deal? Platinum EquityDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has agreed to buy Energy Distribution Partners (EDP)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a propane distribution business, from family-oriented investment firm PPC. Terms were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close in November 2026, subject to customary conditions.

What does EDP do? Founded in 2012 by industry veteran Tom Knauff, EDP supplies propane to more than 200,000 residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural customers across 24 states. It has grown by acquiring 45 local operators while keeping their brands and leadership teams in place.

The financials: PPC invested in EDP in 2020 alongside the founders and existing investors. Since then, EDP has more than tripled EBITDA through a mix of organic growth and acquisitions, giving Platinum a scaled platform rather than a loose collection of local businesses.

What's the rationale? "PPC has been a valuable partner through a period of rapid growth, bringing a deep understanding of founder-led businesses and strong financial and operational support," said Kevin Pollack, chief executive officer of EDP. Investment partner Eric Kieras said EDP "is well positioned for continued success with its new partners."

Why now? The sale lands in an active buy-and-build market for propane distribution. Private-equity-backed Lettermen's EnergyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → was acquired in late 2025 and kept expanding, while sponsor-backed Reliable Energy Partners reported its fifth acquisition in February 2026.

The signal: Propane distribution remains fragmented, making regional players attractive platforms for consolidation. EDP's record of rolling up 45 operators shows why private equity keeps targeting the sector — though the undisclosed price makes the deal's valuation hard to judge.
