Clip buys Pulpos to turn payments into a full business platform

What's the deal? Mexican fintech Clip has acquired PulposDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a cloud-based business management system, for an undisclosed sum. The move adds point-of-sale, inventory, electronic-invoicing, supplier-purchasing and AI-agent tools to Clip's payment solutions.

What's the endgame? Clip wants merchants to get paid and run their businesses in one system. Once integrated, a single sale will update inventory, generate invoicing data and record the transaction automatically, cutting manual work.

Why now? The deal extends a broader expansion push. In June, Clip launched Mi Clip, a digital-wallet ecosystem with Ant International, Mastercard and Televisa-Univision, and reportedly raised $500 million to pursue wallet and payments growth.

The hire: Clip also appointed Debra Chrapaty to its board. She has held technology leadership roles at Wells Fargo, Amazon and Microsoft, most recently serving as chief technology officer of Toast — experience relevant as Clip scales a more complex platform.

What's each company? Clip is a Mexican financial ecosystem built on digital payment acceptance. Pulpos, founded in 2023 by Franco Silveti, Lucas Cortés and Frank Martin, will keep its own brand and team.

"Becoming part of Clip will allow us to take that mission to a much larger scale and build an experience where getting paid and running the business are part of the same system," said Martin.

What could go wrong? The price and integration details were not disclosed, so the deal's value hinges on how smoothly Pulpos's software is adopted. Clip also faces intense payments competition in Mexico from rivals such as Mercado Pago.

The signal: Clip is following the fintech playbook of moving beyond payment acceptance into the software merchants use daily. Linking sales to inventory and invoicing deepens engagement with Mexican small businesses — and makes the service harder to replace.
