21shares launches Europe's first Anthropic pre-IPO ETP as Wall Street chases private AI

What's the deal? 21shares has launched the 21shares Anthropic Synthetic ETP (ticker: CLAU), which it calls Europe's first exchange-traded product offering continuous, unleveraged exposure to Anthropic's implied valuation ahead of the company's IPO. It began trading October 13, 2026, on the Vienna MTF operated by Wiener Börse, priced in US dollars, with a 1.00% total expense ratio and a 2.00% exit fee.

How does it work? Investors do not get shares in Anthropic. The product uses total return swaps on the Kaiko Anthropic USD Reference Rate index, whose daily price is derived from Anthropic perpetual futures listed on Binance — tracking the futures with no leverage.

Why now? AI's biggest value drivers remain locked inside private companies that are raising capital faster than almost any sector in history. "Traditional investors who want to take part in this value creation face a growing access problem," said Duncan Moir, president and chief investment officer at 21shares.

What's the endgame? The ETP is the first product issued under a new 21shares special purpose vehicle, 21shares x FalconX Limited, which pairs 21shares' structuring with FalconX's prime brokerage balance sheet and derivatives desk. The firm wants a repeatable pipeline for pre-IPO, multi-asset, and yield-bearing exposures.

What could go wrong? Perpetual-futures prices can diverge from private-market valuations, financing-round marks, or eventual IPO prices. The structure also carries funding, liquidity, counterparty, and pricing risks, so it is not equivalent to owning the companies' shares.

The signal: The launch follows a wave of funds packaging private AI exposure for ordinary brokerage accounts, including Corgi's MANGOS ETF and Leverage Shares' MGOL in the US. Wall Street is building back doors into Anthropic and OpenAI — letting public investors speculate on pre-IPO valuations before either company lists.
