Norway's ZTL nears 50,000 business clients, adds payee checks

What's the deal? Oslo-based fintech ZTL now has nearly 50,000 business customers across Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, the company says. Clients have paid more than US$6.04B in bills through its platform so far this year.

What's the endgame? ZTL lets businesses pay invoices, salaries, and foreign transfers directly from the accounting and ERP systems they already use, bypassing banks' online banking. It is supervised by the Norwegian Financial Supervisory Authority.

Why now? ZTL is building Verification of Payee (VoP) into its payment flow, in partnership with Swedish fintech Movitz Payments. The feature checks whether a recipient's name matches the account before money is sent.

The product: Payment providers in the eurozone have been required to offer VoP since October 2025. ZTL says it is the first Norwegian fintech to adopt it, adding the check to a pre-execution validation layer that also runs fraud scoring on every transaction.

The signal: As fraud controls like VoP shift from regulatory mandate to market expectation, fintechs that build compliance into the payment flow — rather than bolting it on — stand to win regulated clients. ZTL's growth suggests demand for payments that route around traditional online banking.
