Dallas-based Disruptive closes $10B fund, largest in Texas history
What's the deal? DisruptiveDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Dallas-based growth equity firm, has closed its first flagship fund at $10 billion — the largest venture fund in Texas history. The firm plans to make roughly 10 investments of up to $1 billion each, targeting AI, infrastructure, and defense.
Why now? Founder Alex Davis said the trigger was SpaceX's planned public offering and the scrutiny it would bring to the special purpose vehicles (SPVs) Disruptive had relied on since 2012. "So we got the docs ready right as the summer ended and got a really quick, good response from our investors," he told Axios.
What's the endgame? The fund marks a structural shift from deal-by-deal SPVs to a single pooled vehicle, giving Disruptive discretion to deploy committed capital. Active investments include Databricks, Groq, ElevenLabs, Helsing, Reflection AI, and Shield AI; prior bets include Airbnb and Spotify.
What could go wrong? Concentrating $10 billion across about 10 companies at up to $1 billion apiece leaves little room for error. This is a growth- and late-stage megafund, not a diversified early-stage portfolio.
The signal: Disruptive's raise fits a concentrated 2026 market, where enormous funds have favoured AI and established managers — alongside Thrive Capital's $10 billion vehicle and Andreessen Horowitz's more than $15 billion across funds. Its focus on AI, infrastructure, and defence tracks investor attention as it spreads from AI applications to compute, data-centre, and energy infrastructure.
More details: It is technically Disruptive's first blind-pool fund, meaning its limited partners committed money without knowing which companies it will back. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier in October that the firm had already secured at least $7.5 billion in commitments, and Bloomberg reports Disruptive told LPs it has returned more than $6 billion on the roughly $1.9 billion it has put into startups. The firm runs with about 30 people. Davis, a grandson of the late oil and entertainment investor Marvin Davis, founded Disruptive in Los Angeles in 2012, moved it to Austin in 2021 and to Dallas in 2024; its LPs include sovereign wealth funds, family offices and institutions. Forbes ranks it the third-largest fund raised by a VC firm this year, after Andreessen Horowitz's $15 billion in January and Thrive Capital's Thrive X in February.
