Pet drugmaker Ruide Medical raises $15M first round led by Highlight, Qianhai Fangzhou
What's the deal? Shenzhen-based Ruide MedicalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised nearly US$13.8M in its first funding round, the company said. Highlight CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Qianhai Fangzhou co-led, with Shenzhen SME Investment Guarantee joining; CEC CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → acted as sole financial advisor.
What does the company do? Ruide develops pet medicines for the consumer healthcare market, focusing on two high-incidence categories: deworming and skin treatments. Its range also covers common conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, and respiratory infections.
Who's behind it? Ruide's founder previously built pet nutrition brand RedDog, which created the "nutrition paste" category. The startup now markets its drugs under the "Dr. Ruide" brand.
What's the endgame? The company said the round will "accelerate the research and launch" of its deworming and skin drugs. It aims to become "a leader in global pet innovative drugs" and bring Chinese pet medicines to international markets.
Ruide has several approved products on the market and a self-built veterinary plant in Ganzhou, Jiangxi. The 12,000m² facility is in production, holds veterinary GMP certification, and runs lines covering its deworming and skin pipelines.
Why now? Capital is moving into pet pharmaceuticals, not just consumer brands. Zhichong Pharmaceutical closed a tens-of-millions-CNY A1 round in October, while Huixing Biology secured incubator backing.
The signal: Ruide's pitch combines consumer-brand experience with drug development and manufacturing — a bet that China's pet market is maturing from supplements toward specialist treatment. But its "global innovation" claims will need concrete approvals, clinical evidence, and sales to prove out.
