FinMaq raises $6.5M Series A to finance equipment for Colombia's small businesses

What's the deal? Colombian fintech FinMaq has closed a $6.5 million Series A led by global investor AccionDealroom has a profile for this one. What's the endgame? FinMaq serves food producers, manufacturers, construction operators, health clinics, rural vets, transporters, and microfarmers — buyers of costly equipment that traditional banks overlook. Through distributor partnerships, in-house risk models, and a fully digital process, it offers credit, lease-to-own schemes, and after-sales financing.

The company plans to use the capital to double its operation within 18 months, targeting more than $200 million in disbursements and over 5,000 additional clients.

Why now? In Colombia, micro, small, and medium enterprises make up more than 99% of businesses, generate 79% of jobs, and contribute roughly 40% of GDP. Yet about 40% of them lack access to credit to buy the equipment they need to grow.

By the numbers: Since 2019, FinMaq has served over 1,600 clients and disbursed more than $100 million nationally. Its portfolio splits evenly between rural and urban areas, women lead 40% of its clients, and its non-performing loan rate sits below the industry average.

The new round follows a $29 million pre-Series A announced in January 2025 that combined equity and debt. This distinction matters: the earlier financing included credit to fund loans, while the Series A is fresh equity.

What could go wrong? FinMaq's growth bet rests on converting capital into sustainable expansion while keeping credit risk in check. Doubling disbursements in 18 months raises the stakes on both fronts.

The signal: Small-business lending continues to draw investor interest in Colombia, with players like Bold recently securing a BBVA SparkDealroom has a profile for this one. FinMaq stands out by specialising in productive assets rather than general commercial credit — a narrower bet on financing the tools that drive economic output.
