Sound Ventures’ Anthropic stake — early Series C check plus ~$400M later — now ‘billions’

What’s the story? Sound Ventures, the firm co-founded by Guy Oseary and Ashton Kutcher, is among the early venture winners as Anthropic moves toward an IPO. Newcomer lists Sound with Spark Capital and Factorial Funds as firms that got in early and secured positions now worth billions.

The stake. TechCrunch, citing Bloomberg, says Sound invested $35 million in Anthropic’s 2023 Series C and has since funneled an additional about $400 million into the company, resulting in a stake worth billions at the latest private marks. Public reporting has not published a single exact dollar valuation for Sound’s full position comparable to the Menlo/Iconiq/Spark figures. (Kutcher left Sound Ventures in 2026 to launch a new firm, per the same TechCrunch piece.)
