PennantPark closes $1.2B senior credit fund, exceeding its target
What's the deal? PennantParkDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has held the final close of PennantPark Senior Credit Fund II (PSCF II) with $1.2 billion of investable capital, exceeding its original target. Combined with the firm's recently closed Credit Secondary Fund, the two vehicles represent about $1.9 billion in aggregate capital.
Who's backing it? PSCF II drew a global investor base across North America, Europe, and Asia, including public and private pension plans, insurance companies, asset managers, and family offices. The fund attracted both longstanding investors and new institutional partners.
What's the strategy? PSCF II invests primarily in first-lien senior secured loans to cash-flowing, sponsor-backed companies in the core middle market — firms PennantPark defines as having $10 million to $50 million in earnings. It targets resilient, service-oriented sectors such as healthcare, government services, technology, consumer, and business services.
Why now? The close follows September's $745 million Credit Secondary Fund, a continuation vehicle that gave limited partners in legacy funds a liquidity option while keeping capital available for follow-on loans and new deals. The structure reflects a broader 2026 rise in credit secondaries and continuation funds.
Founder and managing partner Arthur Penn said the core middle market offers "compelling risk-adjusted opportunities in private credit," pointing to "wider spreads, lower borrower leverage, and stronger lender protections" as larger transactions draw more competing capital.
PennantPark and its affiliates now manage roughly $11 billion of investable capital, including available leverage. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Miami, it operates offices in New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, and Zurich.
The signal: Institutional appetite for direct lending remains strong, but capital is increasingly concentrated among larger managers. The $1.9 billion headline is a vote of confidence in PennantPark's middle-market focus — though it should not be read as $1.9 billion in fresh senior-lending commitments, given that a continuation vehicle makes up more than a third of the total.
