Fundraise

Poongjeon Pharmacy to raise $2.26M in share placement for working capital

What's the deal? South Korean drugmaker Poongjeon Pharmacy will raise US$2.52M (roughly $2.26 million) through a private placement, issuing 1.2 million common shares at US$2.1 each. Adela New Technology Fund No. 66 will take 800,000 shares and Nova New Technology Fund No. 243 the remaining 400,000.

The terms: The company's board approved the third-party allocation, announced October 26, 2026. Payment is due November 10, and all shares carry a one-year lockup.

What's the money for? The raise is earmarked for operating funds — a working-capital injection rather than a growth bet. The new shares represent about 12.5% of the pre-issue count, a notable dilution for existing shareholders.

Why now? The placement follows a larger US$3.35M financing package in June that combined a share placement and convertible bonds. The repeat tap of external capital over a few months points to continued reliance on outside funding.

The signal: South Korean biotech and healthcare funding has rebounded, with industry investment nearing US$1.68B in the first nine months of 2026. But Poongjeon's stated use of proceeds for day-to-day operations means this raise reflects its own funding needs more than the sector's recovery.
