The raise lifts Fundbot's total funding since 2023 to $2.6 million.

What does it do? Founded in Nice in 2020 by Karl Abouzeid, Fundbot runs a digital platform for supply chain finance and trade credit insurance, giving banks and insurers the tools to lend to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It operates in Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt, where it says it has financed more than 3,000 SMEs and granted over $500 million.

What's the endgame? The money will fund commercial expansion and new AI tools, particularly for underwriting and credit-risk analysis. Two new markets launch in Q4 2026 and Q1 2027, taking Fundbot to five markets, alongside new trade credit insurance and a co-financing fund that lends beside partner banks.

Why it matters: "We give banks and insurers the tools to finance SMEs faster, more safely and at greater scale," said Abouzeid, founder and chief executive officer. The round's significance lies less in the cheque size than in a small company's push to scale cross-border SME finance.

What could go wrong? Expansion and credit-risk execution remain the test. The $1.1 million raise is modest beside the region's larger deals — UAE lender CredibleX pulled in $15 million in May.

The signal: The deal fits a broader MENA shift toward SME lending and embedded-finance infrastructure, even as fintech investment in the region concentrates in a few large Saudi deals. Fundbot's bet is on persistent demand for SME credit — the question is whether a lean team can scale it across borders.
