Lucid Diagnostics raises $15M as Medicare begins paying for its cancer test

What's the deal? Lucid DiagnosticsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (Nasdaq: LUCD) closed a $15 million private placement of Series C Convertible Preferred Stock on October 21, 2026, the same week it began receiving Medicare payments for its EsoGuard Esophageal DNA Test. The cancer-prevention diagnostics firm, a subsidiary of PAVmedDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (Nasdaq: PAVM), sold the shares to existing long-term shareholders.

Why now? On September 22, Lucid said it would begin submitting Medicare claims for EsoGuard tests run at one of its two CLIA-certified labs. It soon started receiving payments at the established rate of $1,938.01 per test.

What's the endgame? EsoGuard, paired with the EsoCheck collection device, screens patients with chronic heartburn for esophageal precancer. "Medicare is now paying for EsoGuard," said chairman and chief executive officer Lishan Aklog, calling it "a seminal moment in our mission to end the scourge of esophageal cancer."

The round strengthens Lucid's balance sheet and extends its cash runway. Shares were sold at $1,000 each and convert to common stock at $0.3519 per share. Investors included holders of a majority of the company's 12.0% senior secured convertible notes due 2029.

What could go wrong? Lucid still needs commercial payors to follow Medicare's lead. Aklog said reimbursement "removes a key headwind" with large health systems and will help the company pursue broader coverage.

The financing also resolved a risk tied to those 2029 notes: participating holders acknowledged that Medicare payments addressed the concerns behind the notes' Medicare-related default provision. Lucid plans to use net proceeds to accelerate commercial operations and for working capital.

The signal: For a commercial-stage diagnostics firm, national reimbursement is the gate to scale — turning a validated test into a billable one. Backing from existing noteholders, rather than new outside capital, signals that Lucid's near-term bet rests on converting that Medicare access into revenue.
