What's the deal? Scaffolding and specialist access group PHD Access has secured a €37.7 million investment from MML Ireland and GoodbodyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → to fund European growth and acquisitions. MML Ireland led the growth equity deal, with Goodbody Capital Partners investing alongside.
What's the endgame? PHD supplies scaffolding and access services across the UK, Ireland, and continental Europe for sectors including construction, data centres, semiconductor manufacturing, and life sciences. The capital will back growth in existing markets and entry into new territories, with the stated aim of building PHD into Europe's leading specialist access provider.
Where's the expansion? PHD already operates in Denmark, Germany, Spain, and Portugal, and plans to enter the Netherlands, Sweden, and Finland during 2026. It also plans to acquire established access businesses.
Who stays in charge? The Dwyer family will retain a majority shareholding through significant reinvestment and keep leading the business. Danny Dwyer remains chief executive and Sean Dwyer chief strategy officer, while John Fitzgerald joins as chair of the group board.
"This investment gives us the backing to accelerate the next stage of that journey," Danny Dwyer said. "We see a significant opportunity to grow in our existing markets and enter new ones to ultimately build PHD into the leading specialist access provider in Europe."
What could go wrong? The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval.
The signal: The deal gives PHD the capital to pursue cross-border expansion and consolidation in a fragmented sector. With little sign of a wider wave of comparable deals, its significance is chiefly company-specific — a family-owned scaffolding group backing itself to scale across Europe.
