Pythag Tech raises $4.25M to cut cultivated meat costs with AI

What's the deal? New York-based Pythag Tech has raised $4.25 million in seed funding for its AI platform aimed at lowering the cost and production timelines of cultivated meat. Azolla VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → led the round, with participation from Endurance28 and other institutional investors.

What's the endgame? Pythag runs large-scale lab experiments on the industry's three main cost drivers — growth media, cell line development, and bioprocessing — then licenses the optimised production processes to food companies. Each experiment feeds a proprietary dataset that its machine learning models use to pick what to test next. "We're not making meat," the company says; it builds "the intelligence layer needed for cultivated meat production."

What's the money for? The capital will expand Pythag's biological dataset and scale its machine learning technology. CEO Sami Nabulsi says the startup is buying automation equipment, opening a second lab in Thailand alongside its Melbourne lab, and growing both its wet lab and AI teams.

Why now? Nabulsi, who founded Pythag with chief R&D officer Anne-Sophie Mertgen in 2023, frames the moment around supply pressure. The US cattle herd sits at its lowest level since the 1950s, parasites have limited meat imports, and ground beef prices have hit record highs.

What could go wrong? The funding announcement alone does not demonstrate cost reductions or commercial impact. No cultivated-meat product is yet selling at scale, and the company declined to disclose headline performance figures, with Nabulsi calling them "a bit of a gimmick in this industry."

The signal: Pythag's model offers a less capital-intensive route to progress than building production plants, which matters in a sector where funding has been scarce since its 2021 peak. Recent rounds have stayed modest, including SuperMeatDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s reported $6 million financing in May 2026.
