TA takes majority stake in Belgian surgical-workflow maker MedEnvision

What's the deal? Private equity firm TA AssociatesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → is acquiring a majority stake in MedEnvisionDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Belgian medtech company that makes products to streamline orthopaedic surgery. Founders, management and existing backer Smile InvestDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → will retain their holdings. Financial terms were not disclosed.

What does MedEnvision do? Founded in 2012 and based in Westerlo, Belgium, it sells its Efficient Surgery (ESY) solution — built around the Gripper and EsySuit products — which standardises hip, knee and shoulder replacement procedures. The company says this helps hospitals cut costs, free up scarce staff, improve ergonomics and support infection control.

What's the endgame? TA's investment targets international growth, a broader product range and a larger commercial team. The focus is deeper expansion in the US, already a key market alongside the more than 26 countries where MedEnvision sells.

Why now? The deal follows Smile Invest's 2024 partnership with MedEnvision, when founders and management also kept stakes. "It has been a privilege to support MedEnvision's founders and management team since 2024," said Smile Invest's Bart Cauberghe and Nicolas Costers, who called TA "a like-minded partner."

CEO Dries Goyens framed TA's backing as recognition of the company's work. "With TA's healthcare expertise and international reach, we can bring our solutions to many more operating theatres worldwide," he said.

The signal: The transaction fits broader 2026 investor interest in medtech and orthopaedic businesses, driven by ageing populations and staffing shortages. But this is a growth investment in a specialist, not a large strategic takeover — no terms were disclosed. It is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to conditions.
