KOTUG buys majority of Dubai's Vortex Offshore in Middle East push
What's the deal? Rotterdam-based KOTUGDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired a majority stake in Vortex OffshoreDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Dubai offshore maritime services provider, the companies announced in October 2026. Terms were undisclosed. Advisory firm JBR ran the sale process for Vortex's shareholder.
Who's involved? Vortex, founded in 2010, runs 11 offshore vessels in the Middle East with four more under construction, supporting offshore energy, marine transportation, and towage. KOTUG is an over 100-year-old maritime service provider with operations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Americas.
What's the endgame? KOTUG has worked in the Middle East for years from its Dubai office, offering subsea services and vessel management. The deal substantially expands its fleet and footprint in what it calls one of the world's most important offshore and energy markets.
What changes? Vortex keeps its name and management structure, while gaining access to KOTUG's global network and investment capacity.
"This acquisition is a significant step in KOTUG's long-term growth strategy," said Ard-Jan Kooren, president and chief executive officer of KOTUG. "By joining forces with Vortex Offshore, we are substantially expanding our operational footprint, fleet and service capabilities in the region."
The signal: The purchase fits a broader pattern of offshore-service providers expanding through fleet acquisitions, as TidewaterDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and LD TravOcean have done recently. With no disclosed price and no wider consolidation wave, it reads as a targeted scale move rather than a market-defining one.
